Duluth company that owes over $1 million in taxes given stimulus cash
October 17, 2010 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Among the numerous Duluth companies to receive stimulus money was Polyphase Electric, even though the company has had nearly $1.2 million in state and federal tax liens filed against it, which the News Tribune first reported in August.

Here’s an idea, why don’t they take that stimulus money and use it to pay off their bill, and then let everybody know in a press release that they paid it off.
No, wait, that ones already been done.
GM did it
Ok, gotta think of a new strategy.

This is the nature of government. It cannot be reformed, it cannot be improved. The best we can do is minimize it.

I found the article a bit misleading. Yes, they have back tax problems but no, they weren’t “given” stimulus money. They were a subcontractor on the airport job which received the stimulus money. They bid on the work like anyone else and hopefully will turn somewhat of a profit on the job….so they can pay more on their taxes, both current and past due. Again, they weren’t “given” the money, they have to get up early every morning and go and earn it. I sure don’t see a problem with that.

To all of you, this isn’t about the government handing out money to those who do not deserve it. This is about a company and a low life Vice President, who does NOTHING for his employees, has not been fair or truthful with his employees nor has shown any concern for the hardships that he has caused his employees. Polyphase/Mesaba Electric/Tim Harkonen DID NOT do the good work on any of the jobs that were given…It was the employees who did the work, who didn’t get paid because their pay checks wouldn’t cash!! It is correct that Tim has not paid up on Unemployment Benefits or Health and Welfare benefits for that matter or many of the vendors that they bought supplies from. There have been MANY weeks that these workers who trusted Mesaba/TIm and the REST of management to do what was right. Instead they left their employees in limbo, not working, not getting paid, or working and not getting paid because of their irresponsible, unethical ways of running a business. Not to mention the shame that Tim has caused his family after trusting him with the family business, as this was his parents way of delving out the inheritance. There is NO way this man should be allowed to do business, EVER!!! The coward owes everyone (employees, vendors, the families, etc.) their due money PLUS an apology for the harm that he has caused.
P.S. What he needs to do to start paying down the debt is by selling off his numerous vehicles, toys, and property. He needs to start living life like his current and/or laid off employees are living. Oh– and by the way DNT when you wrote the first article… the few people you so- call called were either afraid to talk or you didn’t call them. Mesaba is not a good company.
