“Is someone who has lived here all his or her life better than a newcomer?”
That’s always a tough quetion. This one ranks rather low on my list of criteria. Lifelong citizens may have a stronger home-town feeling than a newcomer that may or may not be here very long. Newcomers on the other hand may provide new insight.
“Do parents of current students have a more vested interest than parents of alumni? ”
I believe they do but there is a potential negative. Parents of current students may tend to have a bias toward acheiving personal agendas rather than putting the district as a whole as the top priority.
“Or will years of experience on the board be lost with a group of newcomers?”
This one goes both ways. A long-time veteran has a knowledge that newcomers lack. They’ve learned ways to get things done more efficiently. Of course, it goes without saying that the longer one stays in political office the more likely corruption can become a problem. A good mix of both is probably our best solution.
“Should you vote for all incumbents, all challengers or a combination of the best candidates?”
Kind of on the same lines as my last comment, I believe a good mix it best however, in my opinion it is a wasted vote to use it based solely on whether the candidate is a challenger or not.
In the end the important thing is that we get out there and cast an educated vote. No pun intended of course.
