The Stutsman County Commission will interview six of the 19 applicants for the seat vacated by the death of Doug Kaiser last month. The commission reviewed the names and made the initial selection at its regular meeting Tuesday.

Call your commissioners and tell them we have already voted former commissioner Cichos out of office. Stop with the good old boy network. Also a former county employee is not the best person for the job. The pool of candidates was much deeper than the people that they picked. I know that four qualified women applied for the opening but I guess that frightened the members of the good old boy network. Sorry our local government officials are closed minded and incapable of working along side a woman. Two engineers also applied. They would have been a great fit especially with the current road situation in Stutsman county. Shame on the commissioners. They missed a great opportunity to step up and try and move forward but instead we are faced with having the same old people back in office. Say no to Cichos.

I totally agree with you Ms. Johnson. I did apply for the commission and guess what I am not a man so I didn’t even get an interview. I guess we now know what discrimination is and yes I am using the discrimination card, beause that is what it is. Did any of the women that applied even get one vote to be interviewed? I am sure some lame excuse will be made to say that we women were not qualified. I would like to know what were the qualifications besides being a man or a previous commissioner? Apparently the great citizens of Stutsman county don’t have a voice here, we voted out Cichos but now he is being interviewed, Good Old Boys will be back together again to keep this county commission failing us. Way to go Good Old Boys.

Yes, the voters did vote Steve Chicos out. Who could forget when a townhip officer asked the county commission if it was going to take a fatal accident to get the county roads fixed and Steve Chicos replied, “we have insurance for that.” And he made the interview list!
The pool of candidates was deep. Two engineers, a senior financial analyst, business manager, a school board president/township officer, highway patrolman, deputy sheriff. etc….none of whom made the interview list.
It would not have been a waste of time to have interviewed these professionals. Male or female, thank you for offering your time and talent to our county.

The first line of this article should actually read – “The Commission will interview six of their friends for the seat vacated by the death of Doug Kaiser last month.”
Personally, I think Ova, Klose, Marks, and Neys may all need to go. Perhaps Mr. Noel Johnson, with his cavalier and elitist attitude does, as well. It has nothing to do with the sex or qualifications of an applicant, so don’t be offended. It is all about who you know, and who knows you.
I was reading some notes from a Commission meeting, just tonight. This one is from August 24th of 2010, I must admit I am disturbed by the lack of support shown to the State’s Attorney and the office thereof here in Stutsman County regarding budget cuts. Cut, cut, cut. Pile on more, more, more – but darn it, sir. Get those criminals. We won’t help you out much, though. Like I said, perhaps there needs to be a change here. A change in favor of the citizens and that is one of their choiice. You know who is up for re-election, and you know the phone numbers of the Commissioners. Pick up the phone and call, vote, vote, vote.

I couldn’t agree with you more SG, I also was reading some of the previous minutes from the meetings and it just really frustrates a person. We all need to join forces at this time and vote out the old and start a fresh start. I feel at this time whoever gets in will be better than what we have now. How really could it get any worse. We have four men that are pigheaded and only do what is good for them not the citizens. You’re right go out and vote, Ben Maulding and Nellie Degen are new comers and maybe could get some changes made.
