Fargo male police officer posed as female drug dealer
The 23-year-old expected to meet a young woman to buy some pot, a purported dealer he met on Facebook. Continue Reading

now this to me is hilarious!!!! if someone is stupid enough to believe everything that is on the internet to be true then they will be getting what they deserve. what a tool.

I’m glad that the Mayberry police have solved all of their cold cases and are spending the taxpayers money to track down and prosecute people buying a bag of weed. One down, 30,000 to go.

Thanks Fargo PD, now we can all sleep safe at night.
What a complete waste of time and money.
To catch a criminal a cop probably needs to hang out where the criminal hangs out. This is where this generation lives and how they communicate to each other.
(says the middle aged guy sitting in his kitchen drinking coffee and yakking on blog pages Sunday morning)
“We target our investigations based on reasonable suspicion. We don’t monitor at random,†he said. The kids lawyer was smart not to make a statement. Sounds like the fuzz are out there trolling, and not patrolling.
Regardless of what this news organization, and the police have to say in this article. I will applaud when this case is thrown out of court for entrapment.
Absolutely a joke. the FARGO PD needs to get a life, seriously.
first they hid in the back of a dump truck by ndsu and radar’ed people. then they hide on a corner of a building at 1st Ave, now they pull this.
its SERVE and PROTECT not CREATE.
This guy was a real threat to society, smokin doobs, watchin tv, and eatin pizza. Way to go Fargo gestapo
You think this young man was stupid, how about the $20k the county will spend to incarcerate and prosecute him. Meanwhile liquor stores and the local watering holes sell products whose consumption leads to countless DUI’s, disorderly conducts, sexual assaults, rapes, and physical assaults some of which lead to death. Can’t say pot has ever led to any of this. When are we going to clean up this mess? Check out the police logs, see how many out of control stoners are on the streets.
LOL!! all valid and sarcastically funny
“Sgt. Mat Sanders, head of Fargo’s narcotics unit, opened an account on Facebook under the name of Terra Vistad and invited several people in the area to be his friend.”
I find this incredibly eerie. How did this sergeant choose people? Did he troll profiles looking for people with “non-traditional” appearances? Certain interests? This really seems like a line law enforcement shouldn’t be crossing.
Also, I totally agree with X-con. It’s ludicrous that they’re throwing a felony at this man, when on any given night people load up, legally, on alcohol and go out and start fights, drive drunk, accost women, etc. When are the police going to turn an informed eye to the societal costs of alcohol use?
One last thing to remember, thanks to our government’s phobia about drug use, if this felony charge goes through this poor young man will never be able to receive federal funding for college, among other benefits, for the rest of his life. Outrageous.
he can get grants and federal aid after he is rehibilitated (sp). I went to school with a girl that got a free ride for sitting in prison. I bet it was tough to find a job though…
Wow, this is so like unfair. Like police are so like stupid. People should sue them for like wasting money and arresting people, like who do they think they are going around arresting people anyhow? Like what a total waste, I could have used that money to like buy new clothes and cool stuff on line. They’re just like parents only like stupider…..way to go Fargo. Love the first posts on here from the overtly mentally challenged.
Opinionated feels its important for the cops to be targeting pot heads, but when it comes to serving alcohol in hair dressing salons he feels the cops are whining too much. Seriously wake up! You think its ok for mommy to be drinking at the salon with the kids, but a man should not be allowed to smoke natural herbs? Alcohol delivers so many more negative effects in the community than does marijuana.
FPD hard up for things to do? Why not create a crime. I feel bad for this kid. He may be stupid, but that’s no reason to destroy his life.
The Fargo police department has lost touch with who the real criminals are. They can sit and entrap people on the internet, but can’t seem to get to my street when I ask them to watch for speeders. I called the fargo farce and asked that they patrol my street at certain times of the day account people speeding down it, but looks like they were to busy surfing the web. This is a terrible waste of our tax dollars and I hope they fire half the force, because thet are worthless!
its Fargo, no one will stand up to them.
they have total control in this small hick town.
Sgt. Mat Sanders should be arrested for soliciting illegal substances over the internet. He broke the law, trying to catch someone breaking the law.
I’d agree with that, Sheeple. Just what makes him so special, because he’s a cop? What’s the difference?
He was looking to lay hands on a controlled substance, ostensibly to sell. So what if it was some kind of ‘sting’? He should be sharing a cell with the person he duped, through misrepresentation.
Sgt. Mat Sanders should be investigated for eating to many donuts on the Fargo police departments expense account. Seriously something smells rotten in Denmark. I wonder what this guy does when he is off the clock? One can only wonder what nick he uses when he dresses up like a girl on the adult web sites on his private computer. LOL.
Does not sound like a real show stopper for the Fargo Police Department. Next they will be busting prostitution, come on, go after the real criminals.
This is one of those times to copy-paste an often copy-pasted block of text:
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris.
“We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against… We’re after power and we mean it… There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
— Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Perfect. It seems daily I keep muttering “Who is John Galt?”
Thanks Matt. That is a perfect quote. That is EXACTLY how the system works. Once everyone starts following all the laws that are in place, new laws will be created.
Now that the internet police have cleaned up craigslist, it is time to get to work on those who use sarcasm in the areavoices comments section. There are too many trolls who lurk and wait to pounce on innocent commenters who read the Forum’s webpages.
Well frank I hope you speak for your self. I have seen no trolling comments in this page, except for yours. Maybe there should be internet police for people like you frank.
if this is all the FPD can come up with, i think its time for some budget cuts.
I feel much safer knowing anyone new I meet on facebook might be a cop looking to bust me. Watch what your joking about online people-it might be used against you in a court of law.
The small fish will fry. Please real criminals do not use facebook. I know I don’t. And since the Fargo police department is immune to internal investigation and practicaly no guidelines, or set policies the good old boy network remains persistant in this community. Denny you got the public city works director fired, are you afraid to mess with the Fargo police structure. It’s okay the mayor does not need to wear a seat belt when he drives, and when he has had a few to many, it’s ok.
And opinionated your statement wreaks of a patient suffering severe emotional distress. You might want to get to the doctor to modify your legal medication. To Macalleyboy, good to see you bud.
Why are people meeting “new people” on facebook at all? Are you that incapable of having your own group of friends, so you have to go find others online? Talk about being a loser!
Another doper scumbag getting what he deserves. The cops won, the criminal lost. What’s not to like?
You’re a prime example of someone who would benefit from smoking pot. Try it.
A thumbs-up would have been awarded for that comment, if the functionality were still present to do so.
Thank you for your support bill. I’m glad you liked my comment.
You just post to get a reaction from people. Doper scumbag? Come on…
Gee whiz, I thought I was using the most politically correct terminology.
The real scumbags are the drinkers, not the pot smokers, if you have to make one the worse of the two.
Imagine if alcohol was illegal and they did a 2 year test run of having it legal to see if all the fears about the dangers were unfounded or legit. Do you think they’d legalize it after that 2 year run? No effing way.
If they had the same trial run with pot, after 2 years it would be legal because pot heads aren’t shooting people at 2am at “parties.”
Rambo this is not over, cops have not won. Do you realize how much time and money it takes to prosecute a case? Resources needed to prosecute will include, the Judge, States Attorney, FPD, Narcotics Unit, and Courtroom Personnel. Thousands of dollars and numerous hours of resources are still needed to get a conviction. The looser here is the taxpayer, that’s you Rambo.
rambo I would suggest that you grow up. This forum topic is a very serious discussion with intelligent people. You could become a random target if the gestapo has it’s way.
My tax dollars are being spent on prosecuting criminals which includes doper scumbags. JC, ” very serious discussion with intelligent people” why are you here then? If I don’t solicit anything on the internet or get involved in illegal activity, how am I going to be a random target? I don’t look at the police as the gestapo. They are doing the best they can to protect people from lowlifes. Grow up JC
Alkies driving around town, beating their wives, and causing public disruptions through mayhem are the lowlifes, not some dude tuggin on a J in their home theater room.
I suppose none of them drive under the influence of drugs, I forgot. Hmmmm, lowlife dopers don’t beat their wives or husbands or cause public disruptions? Why it’s just a miracle that there are such marvelouus substances available to screw up your life with.I’ve seen more people I know screw up their lives with illegal drugs than alcohol although there are plenty of both.Dopers are lowlifes, I don’t care how sophisticated they perceive themselves to be.
And just because you don’t know what you’re talking about won’t give me reason to think you won’t open that flap in the front of your face to tell everybody they’re wrong and you’re right.
Look it up.
Look what I have to put up with by being right. It’s a cross I’ll have to bear.
Please humor me and respond to this statement of mine, if you’ll indulge me for just a moment with an open mind…
Imagine if alcohol was illegal and they did a 2 year test run of having it legal to see if all the fears about the dangers were unfounded or legit.
Do you think they’d legalize it after that 2 year run?
Yes or no.
this requires an open mind, don’t believe Rambo is equipped with this. It was an open mind the abolished slavery, allowed women to vote, let us discover the earth was round, etc.
These illegal drugs are just a blessing on humanity. So a few Mexicans get mowed down south of the border, big deal, it’s just one of the sacrifices that have to be made so the lowlifes can get their drugs.
That’s a hypothetical that is not worth one calorie of energy dealing with.
So you think alcohol should be legal everywhere, but marijuana will destroy our society if legalized.
Is that a true representation of your thoughts on the subject?
Rambo wake up! Go ahead and read the police logs, find me the dopers causing the problems. You won’t, what you will find is nearly 80% of crimes have alcohol involved in them. Put away your ignorance for one day and learn something.
One more thought on this issue. A great place to debate would be the GF city council. They have a legalized drug dealer (Happy Harry’s) on hand and also the mayor’s daughter was arrested for selling drugs twice. Would love their input. Good Day All!
A mayors daughter is no different than anyone elses daughter. She can choose to be a little creep too and pay the consequences.
So you guys think drugs are wonderful, tell it to the judge. I’m old enough to have seen the carnage wrought by the use of illegal drugs of every kind. Maybe someday you folks will come out of your stupor and see the light. We can only hope.
Don’t feed the trolls. I have an extremely hard time believing anybody believes this stuff. This dude has to be trolling.
Drugs are wonderful? I’m sorry, I missed that post. Please link me to it, so I can read it since I don’t think anybody said that. Once again, you have to lie.
Here’s a test for you, Rambo:
Alcohol vs. Marijuana.
One is the most dangerous mind-altering substance known to man, and one is a plant. Can you identify which is which?
They’re both derived from plant material.
If you didn’t think they are wonderful then why are you defending drug use?
If you’re not defending drug use then what’s your point? Sure marijuana is plant material but in the form in which it’s usually ingested, smoke, it is no more directly plant material than alcohol. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Quit being an obstinate dick, and answer my question.
I’ve answered yours.
I don’t feel obligated to answer questions from punks like you. You haven’t answered anything, not that I care.
Mister rambo my apologies sir. I do not mess around with drugs either, I played that crap almost 30 years ago when I was employed by the united states army.
My problem with police and personal privacy dates way back when I lived in New Hope, MN. I had a great job working for a printing company, making good money. Off on a saturday morning feeling good, had a shower, was not dressed when all of a sudden my door is being pounded on. Police, I am like what? They busted out my door and put a gun at my head. why am I being arrested I asked the seargent. His reply was you know. completely astounded they put me in jail for a crime that Amy Klobushar charged me with. It took 14 days to get out of there, and the case was expunged. I will never reside in minnesota again
Stories like this make me hate the government. It has the power to take away your entire life, as though it were nothing and this power is rashly wielded by incompetent bureaucrats.
I like how you guys all claim to be open minded, that’s funny. You clowns are totally unbelievable. If anyone doesn’t accept your radical kook views they’re a troll. The law is on my side in this case as is the general public sentiment. You lose.
Actually the general public sentiment is overwhelmingly in support of legalized marijuana.
So, you’re wrong, and no I don’t accept your radical kook views.
And yes, you are a troll. You aren’t contributing to the conversation, you’re merely criticizing others for theirs. That isn’t quite the same, chief.
My views are mainstream conservative and I’m proud of it. If I haven’t been contributing to the conversation why are you responding? That’s right, I don’t agree with the open minded. You guys are a laugh a minute.
I asked a simple question, and you refuse to answer it because I’m a “punk.”
After a certain age, I don’t think that term is really relevant, and I’m long past that age.
So what we’ve learned here is you won’t answer questions, just because. And you’re willing to ask other people questions, but not answer any of your own for fear of looking even stupider than you already do, which would be a hell of an accomplishment, honestly.
So answer my question. If alcohol were illegal, would it be legalized given how humanity reacts when on the substance?
Who the hell knows.Your questions are totally irrelevant. bill, you still qualify as a punk. Some people just never grow up and still think doing drugs is cool. So you think I’m stupid, that’s a surprise. Everybody that doesn’t have your substandard and debilitating cognitive abilities is stupid. That’s supposed to bother me, coming from a punk?
Bill, Don’t feed trolls.
dude, the more i read, the more you just sound like an insecure douche
