How sad that in these difficult economic times, in an area as prosperous as ours, the Douglas County HRA has decided to balance its budget entirely on the backs of some of our county’s most impoverished citizens! The ghost of the unreformed Ebenezer Scrooge must surely be proud! Meanwhile, it’s likely DCHRA has, by their action, created 11 families of newly homeless people. What a heartless, shortsighted and cruel thing to visit on families just as winter approaches! May the members of the board receive all the same “blessings” they’ve offered their section 8 clients who, on such short notice now discover that they can no longer afford their rents.

I suppose the conventional wisdom would be, get government out of the business of providing housing – let the free market decide what rent should cost. Right?
