Our view: St. Louis County caught doing some things right

Say what you will about the St. Louis County Board and there has been much to grumble about in recent years, from sexual harassment by some of the County Board’s elected members to a commissioner’s vow to support slavery to seemingly obvious acts of good-ol’-boy cronyism to revelations commissioners can travel pretty much at will, racking up expenses paid for by us taxpayers, with virtually no oversight.

While I agree not ALL commissioners are ALL bad, the Naughty ones create a grey fog over the whole board.
A couple smack loudly of a ‘good ol’ boy’ system. It will take me a long time to forget about Ellen Quinn. I have heard more than her horror story of how employees have been treated by those who have power. For a while it also definitely appeared with budget issues, management went head hunting to jettison older employees who were costing the county money while new employees signed on with different and lower benefits. Who trusts an employer who looks solely at the almighty $$$ and fails to recognize employee loyalty. Personally, I think Ellen Quinn got a Very Raw Deal. I think the old ‘KY joke’ is going to fly around one commissioner for some time to come. If you think you can’t fight City Hall, try fighting the County Board and Attorney who will back themselves and their management at every turn.
Would you stay working for an employer you watched trash and screw the elderly employees close to retirement out of their benefits so they could hire cheaper New employees?
Get a clue folks. It isn’t just the good ol’ boy system anymore. The women have joined the power trip in the last 10 years. So I have to applaud the lone woman on the county board for Not playing the game by the good ol’ boys rule book.
It still amazes me Mike Forsman has the Largest District that is also the Furthest from Duluth yet he managed to hold the line on his Spending.
And while Steve O’Neill is local with a small district, his spending was also Rather High…..higher than MF’s. Go figure…..
There’s Still Something Wrong…..and inquiring minds Still Want to see what else is in Pandora’s Box…..at least This Inquiring Mind does. There should be an accounting of the High Spenders, especially $300+ hotel bills…..Itemized. What ya say DNT? There’s some sparks in that smoke screen somewhere I’m thinkin’.
