20-25 year olds are not “kids” – they are adults, making very poor choices… and when they are prosecuted as gang members, and wind up in jail, or prison, they will (hopefully) realize how foolish they have been, to think they are gang members and that it’s all fun and games.
While the situation isn’t funny – I do find it amusing that the members of this “gang” (OVR) don’t even know what their own acronym stands for. Brilliant!

My Mother in Law’s sister lives in Brandon and she drives to Alex all the time for shopping. She has anxiety attacks just driving there… I can only imagine what would happen if she finds this out….

I hope it’s not to late to put in my two cents worth. First let me say that Wyfles failed to mention two important aspects of gangs, at least as far as Minnesota Statute is concerned, but maybe the chief doesn’t care about statues. Let me say, that I know many of these kids, I know some of their parents, and I know that they aren’t angels. However, it’s hard for me to stand by and watch the demonizing of these young adults any longer.
From my understanding the “kids” aren’t the only thugs out there chief. From my understanding, some of the young adults had videotaped your officers swearing and harassing them. From talking to one of the fathers I learned that some of the harassment began years ago after he made a juvenile error in judgment. Of course it’s obvious that you don’t mind name calling, in professional circles we call that labeling and it does nothing to prevent crime and should probably be left to the outdated antics of Harry Callahan.
I have to agree with one father I recently spoke to who asserted the entire episode is for political gain… what a waste. I suppose though, in your defense, your a child of the zero tolerance age… an age which brought us over crowded prisons, net widening (that is the criminalization of what once was non-criminal acts), and an ever increasing number of youth being thrown into the system that could have been avoided. I guess though, that’s job security for you though.
