I am so ashamed that in our society we allow people to own pets without ever questioning what their intentions are for wanting to own a pet. I am sure that he had been showing behavioral patterns of being an irresponsible person long before this. Someone should have had the intestinal fortitude to just spit it out and say, “You are not mature enough to own a pet. Go away little boy and come back in about 40 years and then maybe you’ll be mature enough to own a gold fish…maybe.”
