While 15 million Americans who want to work have no jobs at all, the Labor Department reports that another 9 million have part-time jobs but want to work full time. They represent a little-acknowledged aspect of the recession economy: underemployment.

I can totally relate to this story…I have a couple of degrees and am doing menial work, not even getting by. I don’t even make the average weekly pay that they quote in the story. If the housing market didn’t suck as bad as it does here, I’d sell and get the heck out of here. Even though I’m college educated, I won’t push college on my kids. I’d rather have them learn a trade where it can’t be contracted out to another country. Also, this area has been depressed for decades now. I really regret moving back to the area, except I had thought since I had accumulated so many years of work experience, it would have been easier to find decent paying work. Now, I hold down a couple of jobs and am looking for additional work before I do lose my house.
