I’m not positive but I think shooting @ a policeman has a manditory sentence which can not be pled down to a lesser offense. I think it is a state law. Where is a lawyer when we need one?

Mr. Villareal, in Clara City, got 22 years for shooting at the chief’s car in 2005. It’s not taken lightly when shots are fired at officers. I’d say that at least the shooter(s) are going to prison for a good long time.
Thank goodness law enforcement wasn’t hurt.
Another little tid bit: Mr. Evans – in this article – was on a most wanted list about a year ago… I don’t know if he was ever found for that or not, tho. He’s not been out of prison all that long, tho.
I don’t understand the attraction to the “thug life” – but, I’m old and boring, so…

Rick these gunman are looking at anywhere from 16 to 20 yrs just for the attempted murder of a PO. There are also charges of armed home invasion, assault, numerous accounts, felon in possesion of a firearm, which could also involve federal charges. Fleeing a police officer. These are just some of the charges you can expect the CA to file. I am so glad no PO or any other person was hurt when you think of what could have happened if the bullet that hit the officers car had hit him.

Jimmy D. Remember, you still have the county attorney who pressed assault charges on Wagar. So anything is possible including the “plea agreement” with which the present ca is so enamored.

Belle I am more then sure these suspects all have criminal records, ranging from carrying handguns to drug use. I have no doubt, because it is less likely anyone without a record committs a crime of this magnitute. When you shoot at a PO you are either high on drugs, or fear you are going to prison for a lengthly time due to past criminal records. Sorry it takes balls to shoot at a cop, and if I was still on the street I probably would have shot back, but then again it depends on the situation, and the surroundings. I worked in a major urban city so it was different with far more dangerous criminals who have killed several cops this year alone. We are also taught to consider our surroundings when returning fire, and I am sure the officers looked at these conditions. Sometimes when your life might be in direct danger, you don’t have that time, you develop tunnel vision, and try to focus on return fire. I commend the WP officers who used a good deal of steel nerves, and restraint not to return fire, and probably for fear of hitting some innocent person seeing the bullets can travel through walls as some did. Also when a suspect is fleeing, he is not considered a direct threat, but being armed would have justified the officer if he had to shoot and hit one of the suspects, because when your are using a gun in the commission of a felony a cop can be justified in shooting a suspect if it came down to it. Thanks WPD for taking four dangerous thugs off the streets and no one died!

I’m sure you’re right – I looked briefly at public record – one of them has five previous felonies…. I’m sure the other records are just as comparable. I would also suspect that the person the four were after has a similar track record, and the attack was “personal”… retribution, rivalry, etc…
Sometimes I think it’s just me, but it sure seems like there’s been a widespread shift in what is considered to be “acceptable” or “appropriate” behavior – more and more young people in their teens and early twenties seem to think nothing of this kind of thing – like this is just how things are or something. That “thug life” mentality and the appeal of being that kind of badarse seems to be more commonplace than it was when I was that age. The world my children have grown up in certainly is different than the one I grew up in… so many young lives wasted over this kind of garbage. It’s unfortunate.

I get what you’re saying Rick. I would argue that the abortion issue has little to do with the youth pursuing that “thug life” – I highly doubt that young people think to themselves – “hey, why not kill that guy… it’s not like there aren’t millions of babies being aborted, so who cares”.
As far as youth violence being traced to the absence of fathers in the home… some of that may be true, but that statement still bothers me. As a single mother who knows what kind of man it is that I left and opted to raise my children without, I just have a hard time investing in that premise. I know in my heart that my children have been, and continue to be, better off without his presence in our home. I am especially bothered by that statement IF the view point is that there are women out there that are somehow recklessly giving birth to children conceived with men that they do not wish to parent with. I’m not saying that’s your point of view, just that the particular perception bothers me. While I certainly did not set out to parent on my own, I have ended up doing so – at the root of it, it’s because I grew up and embraced my responsibilities and he did not. It wasn’t an intentional decision on my part… although, I will readily admit that I made a youthfull and unwise decision when choosing who to have children with. But at the same time, I was (and am) no mind reader, either. So then, where is the fault for the men who choose to bail, to ignore or reject their responsiblity? It just seems like, too often, the fault for single parent situations leans over to a poor decision on the woman’s part, and less often the poor decisions on the man’s part are overlooked.
I also wonder if those video games, and that music is the cause of, or the result of, the change in attitude in the youth… maybe both for all I know.

It’s cases like this that make me grateful we have a NO NONSENSE prosecutor who isn’t afraid to APPLY THE LAW without first checking which way the wind is blowing!

Belle one of the gunman was from Arizona, so I will bet he must have either violated some probation he may have been on, or he committed a crime there and left. I was told this wasn’t his first rodeo in Willmar, he was There before. There is a shock, commit crimes in Willmar, leave and commit crimes in other states after leaving Willmar, then return a year or two later as others have, and start all over. Willmar is a good town, a city where families and their young kids are safe, but a different element is once again arriving in Willmar, and they appear a bit more daring and dangerous. I fear more armed robberies in places like Willmar. Hey honest law abidding citizens, apply for, and get a carry permit, and get yourself a gun, because the responsible people greatly outnumber the hoods. In my opinion drugs seem to be the root of this problem, so it was either a bad drug sale, or someone who owed a pretty good drug debt and couldn’t pay. Then again it may be a case of mistaken identity either way a message needs to be sent, screw up, and end up in prison, or worst yet get shot committing a crime.

The man from Arizona was not running from anything there. He is involved with some serious people who are out here to control the flow of things. Jesus Trevino supposedly involved the other 3 men in the incident, but Evans is being blamed for it all due to his past convictions. The worst of them all was a self-defense case in which his brother removed a knife from a man and stabbed him with it. Since he showed “anger” in his intention to defend himself and the young male lost his life, both Evans bothers were slapped with murder charges. Just some enlightment from higher sources…

The Evans brothers aren’t innocent victims, you know. Regardless of the unfortunate circumstances behind Hoseck’s stabbing, the Evan’s boys have chosen the lives they are leading. Gang membership is typically voluntary, isn’t it? If Trevino is issuing the orders, he’s the shot caller… and the others are doing what they are supposed to; following orders. Doesn’t make them innocent victims in this. It does mean they’ve made terrible choices and have wasted all that potential they were born into this world with – and that is, truly, a shame. My sympathies lie with their mothers who surely did not set out to raise their sons to lead these lives.

Mike did you ever wonder why the majority of people dislike your comments, you appear to be a disgruntle type of person? Add some substance to a conversation, everyone has their opinion, and some have merit. As far as dragging abortion into the discussion, get a reality check please. How many children did you adopt? Why are we going over seas to adopt when plenty of children are right here in the state system? Then again, there are people who say one thing, but do another, especially if it directly effects them or their family. Rick the law is the law, and if you don’t like it, then write to your GOP candidates who really don’t seem very interested in doing anything about it, even at election time. Just saying don’t take it personal. One more thing Rick, I don’t believe millions of babies were aborted for convience, that appears to be anti-abortion activists propaganda, and I am not buying it, sorry. Americans in this country are decieved to a degree at times, and made to believe things that may have little truth to them, or are stretched out to satisfy someones political agenda. I got it Rick, lets get the tea party to rally against abortion, maybe they can change the law?

Good note, Jimmy D. And right on re anti-choice/abortionists. It’s always a big pre-election thing with GPO politicians pandering to the conservative base. But win or lose, they forget about it the day after the election. As for abortion, anti-choice/abortionists who have adopted have credibility and my respect. Those who haven’t, and with plenty of red and yellow, black and white (recall they’re precious in His sight) kids available, are, well, many times hypocrites. IMLTHO.

There are a lot of facts left out of this incident that should not be ignored. I read all articles, which hav conflicting points, and learned of some information from the family of Mr. Evans.
Hopefully things do not get worse for Willmar residents… there has been an increase in the style of violence in the town. More people need to stand up and help put an end to it all.
Hats off to the authorities for handling the situation well, but their story and the subway video seem a little funny. Video put two men (Evans and Trevino) entering the backseat, and then shots were fired from the vehicle. The reports put both Salinas bothers in the back seat as well… where two of the pistols were found. All four men could not have been in the back seat. Not logical… especially considering the size of all four males.
Hopefully the story is cleared up, and they are charged accordingly and correctly.
