I would say she is not released until her plane leaves Iranian airspace.

If I was foolish enough to blindly wander into Iranian territory in the first place, I would have conducted a hunger strike to either force Iran to release me, or put a black eye on Ahmedinijhad for letting me die under his watch. Iran already knows it has a major PR problem with the civilized world. Kidnapping three would be world-savers and having them die in your prison certainly doesn’t bolster their image either.
Indeed, Hugh. And if I was released and had media from around the world right there, I would’ve had a few things to say about Iran and its leaders. “Thank you” would not have been one of them.

Yea, but remember 2 of her friends are still being held hostage,. I imagine she doesn’t want to say anything to jeopardize their safety.

Then perhaps saying nothing at all was an option she might’ve considered.

What I’ve loved about this story is how the press makes it sound like these three were on a scenic jaunt down something akin to the Superior Hiking Trail.
This should serve as clear/concrete proof to stay the hell out of areas undergoing extreme political tension unless you’re part of a secure NGO or have heavy artillery at your back.

While I am thankful Sarah has been released, I have to agree with many who question the intelligence of these three self-absorbed rompers in their own reality.
Iranians do not appear to me to be able to make ‘concessions’, bail or no bail, without ‘repercussions’. Sadly, I expect the other shoe to drop heavily on the boys left behind.
Time will tell.
For the sake of all America….stay the he// away from the Middle East unless your job Requires you to go there. Just as their countries appear to have Questionable ‘boundaries’….their hatred of Americans has No Boundaries.

Of all places to tour on vacation I don’t think Iraq would be on my list right now, however one look at these three people would tell you that they aren’t spies. Why would spies be frolicking on a hostile border during a war and what would they be spying on. They don’t look like nuclear scientists to me!

I agree Angus, they don’t look like nuclear scientists to me either and it is obvious they are not rocket scientists also.

How does one expect to save the world when they’re not even smart enough to stay out of Iran? And outside of Iranians and Iranian expats, (and terrorists?)who goes to Iran anyway? Can you say Naive?

I bet they will be sticking to Disney Land or a nearby water park next time they leave on vacation!
Misty, I agree with what you wrote. There are plenty of countries who don’t need much of an excuse to grandstand and hold hostages in order to accomplish whatever agendas they may have. The U.S. State Department has its hands full dealing with real world problems and shouldn’t have to be distracted from having to work to free world travelers who get themselves into trouble. I hope these people are freed and are not harmed but others should learn from this event and make better choices.

I’ve been trying for a year to dredge up some sympathy for these three and their parents, but I can’t manage to do that. They clearly aren’t among the deep thinkers of their generation. And they apparently weren’t raised with a whole lot of common sense. It’s hard to imagine too many things more stupid than wandering around the Middle East while a war is going on. I’m glad she’s safe, but I hope (probably in vain) that she learned something.
