City Council’s vote to move Moorhead’s historic log cabin upsets residents

The Moorhead City Council voted 6-2 on Tuesday to move a historic log cabin several blocks from the edge of Woodlawn Park to Memorial Park. Continue Reading

Another example of a small and inconsequential bureaucratic group wasting the tax payer’s dollar. Some days it seems like making dumb decisions is the only way this council can justify their pay, existance and status.

And not one word about the proposed changes to the Disc Golf Course that is in Woodlawn currently and how it is going to get pulled without any explanation. Yet just another Great reporter from the Forum doing their job.
The City of Moorhead had treated that park like a mosquito breeding ground and has not even provided garbage cans in the park leading to the park to fall out of favor to not only the Moorhead city council but to most residents in the neighborhood. The park will get a face lift but at the expense of the fastest growing sport in the F-M area and a historic landmark. Going against the people that not only use the park but live next to it is what frustrates me, and questions the leadership in that city. Kudos Moorhead
Also, where did the $$ come from for this project?
Thanks the Forum for the abundance of information.

Could you explain the disc golf a little better? I didn’t hear about that. From your wording I can’t tell if it’s going to be changed, pulled out, or left alone.

You have to remember that while it would have been cheaper to keep it in place and fix it, it still would not have been protected from future flooding.
It will be nice to have the city put in all of the money allocated into park improvements rather than the cabin because that park is in pretty sorry shape. That said, I’m not sure why the state should pay for moving it.

With the new cost estimates, it’s actually cheaper to move it ($96,000) than to keep it in place and fix it ($142,000). And since the state is paying to move it, the city really had no choice but to move it. For the cost of keeping the cabin there, the city could spend a lot on other park improvements that would probably be more beneficial.

The numbers don’t make sense. I can’t for the life of me figure out how it costs $50k more to move the building onto a new foundation in a new location than to put it on a new foundation in the same location.

I would guess that it’s cheaper and easier to place the building on a flat surface that isn’t eroding away.
