More information will be posted as it becomes available. Continue Reading

That explains all the sirens this afternoon. Hope no one was seriously injured. What could of caused that, I wonder? Someone run a red light maybe?
Hope they update this story soon.

The update says one was killed and others injured.
My condolences.
Still no insight as to how it happened. Will TDG follow up and find out what happened?

this is a controlled intersection!!!!! yet there are all kinds of accidents here. the intersection of hwy 59 and ryan’s road is a bad one also. Everyone who drives these two intersections knows this. makes you wonder what really happened. I think this tragedy was avoidable. this intersection was not designed for the volume of traffice going through it. the entrances for the restaurant and gas station are to close to the actual intersection. ryan’s road needs a stop light. that will slow down the south bound traffic. the cars coming up to Humiston from downtown are often going to fast, even though they have just been through a half mile of residential houses. there should be a stop at clary street. I sit in the restaurant and see many people going by talking on their cellphones. I see dogs on the drivers laps. I see cars that are in poor condition mechanically. I see drivers gunning the motor to beat the red light. I see pedestrians and bicyclists not stopping for the red lights. this is a bad intersection and there needs to be some enforcement of traffic laws here.

This pile up is on Oxford and Humiston and from the looks of the picture, the pile up is on the west end of Oxford, before the light.
6 car pile ups are unusual for Worthington, even for this intersection.
My guess is someone ran a red light on Humiston/Hwy 59 or some pedestrian or animal stepped in front the oncoming traffic. I’m leaning more to someone running the red light.
Either way, it’s pretty bad for all involved. Everything can change in an instant.

Talking to someone that was in the accident it was a rear end collision on Oxford heading East. He was the first at the light and was suddenly hit from the rear and pushed into the middle of the intersection. He didn’t believe he was struck by the primary car in the accident but by the 2nd car in line stopped at the light. Most likely someone wasn’t paying attention and didn’t even hit the brakes for the line of cars stopped at the light.

Thanks Kilroy. The story has been updated and said the same thing that you said about being hit from the rear.
My sincere condolences to Mary Ellen Hanbury’s family.
Authorities believe one vehicle failed to stop for traffic and hit a car already stopped, which set off a chain of crashes from other vehicles waiting for the light to change. They were all eastbound on Oxford Street at the time of the incident.
How can anyone fail to see a bunch of cars sitting at a light?
There are still questions to be answered.
In the very lest, for Mary’s family and the others who were hurt.

The article also says that Mary was a passenger in the vehicle that started the pile up.

I once posted the name of the article and the date and received a bunch of red checks, what a joke! I think they said there is supposed to be something scientific about this site and the, like, dislike thing. Not working for me either! A lot of red checkers out there with nothing to say, not exactly a big plus. The red check adds nothing to the discussion, but can be used to hide comments!

Why do you care what others think about your comments? Didn’t your parents give you enough validation so now you need to feel popular and you base your self worth on having a positive ratio of likes and dislikes on Areavoices? Let it go.

I agree. The voting feature is nothing more than a way for people who don’t want to comment to voice their opinion. It’s completely anonymous and some people probably select their choice for reasons other than the content of the comment. Who cares? Even if a comment becomes hidded due to a poor rating, it’s still viewable by clicking on it. Put on your big girl panties, check your ego at the door, and don’t worry about how much your comment is liked or disliked.

I agree, except for the don’t worry about it part! When it is nonsensical we need to speak up and try to get back to sensible…….
