The Fargo Police Department is banning texting while driving for all employees.

Texting while driving is very irresponsible and just a foolish thing to do.. it clearly takes more attention than one should give while driving.
I don’t like talking on my cell while I am driving and I don’t encourage others to either.. if I happen to call someone and they tell me they are driving, I offer to call back or have them call me back.
I have been a little surprised to follow behind a Fargo officer and see them talking on their cell phone for quite a bit of the drive.. and with the majority of teen attitudes and sadly some adults as well.. I know they are thinking if an officer is doing it, then it must not be such a bad thing to do.. And it is an issue, it seems as if I have to prevent some sort of accident almost daily and 9 out of 10 times I notice the person has a phone to their ear.. and my thought is “put the *bleep* phone down and pay attention!” I have also been a passenger with the driver talking on the phone and I told that person that they are one of those people that they complain about.. this person didn’t even notice how they were driving so different.. as if they were the only person on the road.. turning way slow at the lights (preventing others from making the green) not using their turning signal.. turning into the far lane ect. So it doesn’t always cause an accident but we all enjoy our outings a little more with smooth traffic.. right? Now it seems as if there are inconsiderate jerks on the road everywhere.. and if you pay attention.. you will notice just how many of them are holding a phone to their ear. LOL

Great move by FPD. The PD men and women will impact the community much more when they act as role models not just enforcers.

What police officer needs to make a communication they can’t make on their official radio in the line of business.
Its right this policy should be made. One cannot compose a thought on a cell phone and pay attention to the road with safety. I have tried and frankly, its scary.
I find it interesting that both Walaker and Williams of Fargo made a waffle answer, saying they will watch Grand Forks and think about it after they finish. Is this leadership, or lemmings waiting to be pushed off of a cliff?

This is just plain common sense which once again proves that a lot of people don’t have any or don’t want to use any!

Texting should be ban nation wide by people behind the wheel of any vehicle, should it be police or civilian. Cell phones should be banned also without hands free devices, maybe then some of these people will try to use their blinkers, but then again maybe not.

They might want to also include that Police members use turn signals (at all times), as well.
