Some Duluth families appear to be looking for alternatives to the Duluth school district this fall, with enrollment up at charter and private schools and down in the traditional public schools.

You expect things to level back out in 5 to 10 years???? Is that AFTER you have left us with Your mess that We have to deal with????
The Parents who have the Financial ability and other Freedoms have Spoken loud and clear. But what about the parents that maybe are single, struggling or just don’t have the Freedom of Options?

What Misty said! The ‘traditional school system’ keeps shooting themselves in the foot. This red plan is going to go down as a major ‘nail in the coffin.’ Be careful who you vote for! There ain’t no free lunch!

YOU have NO power to tell parents whether they can leave or come back. A parent can pull their kids now and come back whenEVER they want. How RUDE of you. Who the F do you think you are? Go away. We don’t need YOU.

This is exactly why I enrolled my son in the Edison schools. There is way too much change (and negativity) going on in Duluth schools, for one kindergartner to deal with. Thank goodness for options—although, it’s too bad that every child who wants to get in cannot get in. Here’s hoping Edison will get their expansion!

The school board esp Grover, who made promises not to leave his district void of schools in his district and then sided with Dixon. And Dixon who is repeating his past mistake of other districts are a major reason of students leaving. Dixon projected a lose of students based on less students in the area, however the area is loosing less students than thought mainly because of the families coming in from other cities from section 8 etc.
Another is the board’s and teachers failure to educate our kids so they can compete. Hiring/keeping/ rehiring teachers based on seniority and the unions rules do not give us the best teachers, Im sure the private/charter school’s teachers make less yet they are outperforming the public schools. Why? Because they love thier job.
New schools do nothing for the kids. We need teacher’s and a board that isn’t affraid to look at what does work such as the charter schools successes. And abandoning the center of the city surely didn’t help.
And with construction costs way down since JCI put together thier estimates on the RED PLAN where are all the savings?
