The best thing we can do to improve government is to become better informed voters. How many of us vote for a candidate because that candidate best represents our views? Instead, we vote for a host of other reasons and none of them mean a hill of beans. We vote for someone because he/she is an endorsed Democrat, Republican, Independent, or other party affiliate. We vote because we recognize a particular candidate’s name simply because that person’s supporters did a great job of getting their name exposed. We vote because a candidate is an incumbent and we don’t know the others. We vote because a candidate is not the incumbent and we want change. Who cares what it changes into. We vote because a candidate is cute or has good speaking ability. We vote based on how much money a candidate spent on his/her campaign.
Worst of all too many of us don’t vote. Roughly 40% of us decide who is in power and of those 40% I would bet less than half have the slightest clue about their candidate’s politiical position.
