Tours Tharaldson plant in Casselton on Friday
CASSELTON, N.D. Ethanol producers are running out of time when it comes to tax credits given to the fuel producers who use a blend of ethanol and gas. Continue Reading

I think it is great to concentrate on bio-fuels and alternative energy but still have an issue with using corn to power cars when it could feed some of the many, many hungry people on this planet. Tharaldson “is marketing corn oil, a byproduct of its ethanol production to bio-fuel companies.” Corn oil isn’t food in the stomach.
Pomeroy was quoted as saying “We’re trying to get past a regulation where you put 90 percent Saudi Arabian gas in your car and only 10 percent from home-grown ethanol gas.”
Actually most of our imported oil comes from Canada and Mexico. http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html
I’m inclined to trust a URL dot gov domain

Anybody got any numbers on how heavily this is subsidised? I read once that if you took the entire corn crop of the US and converted it to ethanol you would have about 10% of what is imported to the US. You want to lessen dependence, drill for it.

Viking- The question I have is why drill for it when we already know where it is- buddy they been jerking your chain so long , you’re blind. GOOGLE it or follow this link. It will blow your mind. http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April (’08) that only scientists and oilmen knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn’t been updated since ’95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota; western South Dakota; and extreme eastern Montana … check THIS out:

Between Ethanol and HFCS, two of the biggest ills on American society, I am really beginning to frown on farm subsidies as a whole. You want a successful farm? Find an investor like every other businessman and stop depending on the government. But that’s just my opinion, and I realize it may not be very popular around here.

If an industry can not make it on its own it should not be made at all!! Corporatism is not right!

We need all the energy we can get. Ethanol from corn was supposed to be a first step as we transitioned into different sources of ethanol. There are more grains than corn that can be used for food and perhaps that should be looked into as compared to putting all our eggs into one basket, corn. We need enough energy sources available to act as a check and balance against each other or the $4.00 per gallon gas we saw may be very cheap. Yes, I am including oil and coal in my thoughts.

This is corporate welfare. Why isn’t the Tea Party protesting this? Between farm welfare and corporate welfare these “investors” and “businessmen” and “capitalists” sure look like “socialists” on the dole. What is really sick is that Tharaldson is a billionaire. What are we doing giving money to him? I guess Earl knows who butters his bread, as do the Republicans.

Little Lord Pomeroy should be interested in buying one of the perpetual motion machines I invented.
