Duluth school district buys home for nearly 3 times its appraised value
August 27, 2010 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
A Duluth man who refused to sell his city-appraised $86,200 home for the new western middle school project finally did for $250,000.

I find it hard to believe a home of that style in that neighborhood is worth that amount of money. Remember, its location, location, location. But, Mr Dioxin pointed out that the district actually saved money by spending that amount. So, I feel much better.

Good for him! This is what it`s all about folks. Why cave into pressure and walk away with nothing? Government and “taking” can go hand in hand. Thumbs up to Dave!

Way to go Dave! There isn’t a person around who doesn’t want to get the most money possible for their property. Buy Low, Sell High, that’s my motto.

How many of you critics even read the article? Did you notice that it clearly stated that the appraisal didn’t take into account any improvements done to the interior? In fact, The school board admitted that the appraiser hadn’t even looked inside. Dave suffered miserably with his back issues and designed his home to accommodate them. Now a few ignorant Monday morning quarterbacks are blaming Dave for getting what is owed him? It’s funny how you leftists want to give away the store to the deadbeats in society, but cry crocodile tears when a disabled guy only wants to be paid for the value of the improvements added to his home. WAY TO GO DAVE! I’m glad that there’s still enough spine in that old neck of yours to stand up to the bullying of Dixon and company!

I agree with you 100% Hugh. Well over ½ of the trolls that post on this site are morons. It is obvious that many times they post comments on articles they have not even bothered to read (if they even can read).

It hardly matters what improvements were made to this house, since it’s going to be torn down anyway. I applaud Mr. Gasnell for standing up for his rights, but if push came to shove, the city would have taken this land anyway.

Good for him. He didn’t want to move and the price was his to set. My home might have a tax value of 300,000 on it but I wouldn’t sell it unless you offered me $2 Mil. So I can understand the man.
