This is a great program. The United Way of Becker County started this a couple of years ago as a pilot in the Detroit Lakes schools. It has now expanded to Lake Park Audubon and Frazee. Perham also has a program.
Yes, probably the parents of some of the children may smoke and/or drink and I agree it is disheartening they place this as a priority over feeding their children. However if children are hungry they have a more difficult time learning. We need to look to the future of our children and hope for a more positive outcome.

It’s not about the parents, it’s about the children. It’s a great program. The sponsorship idea is good, IMO, it would give an individual or group a chance to help someone less fortunate.
