I just wrote my TV cable company another letter of complaint this week; I wish everybody would.
Cable TV is well, where should I begin? Continue Reading

Why don’t you support our local Selective TV. They are struggling as the cable companies are picking up all of their channels. We have lost RFD tv, the history channel and several others. At least the cost of Selective is reasonable even if tv is pretty boring overall. As long as there is one channel I can get without cable I will never pay for cable tv. Probably not even if that channel were to disappear. I know people with cable and all of those channels have the same lame garbage but it is just on more channels. Lately it is more interesting to subscribe to more magazines and listen to the radio!

I almost forgot to mention that we now have 4 more PBS digital channels and that is all that is watched in this house except for KSAX. Way better programing than the History channel or Discovery channel. They are on 10-1, 10-2, 10-3 and 10-4 plus the normal 30 and 47 channels.

Pretty sure Dennis Dahlman lives in the St. Cloud area, so while a good thought, Selective TV isn’t an option for him.

Yup, I stand corrected. I didn’t even look at the person writing the column. Just assumed it was somebody local.

One that gets me is the weather channel. I thought their intended purpose was to report the weather and provide “accurate” weather predictions. First, I’d swear that when I was a kid back in the 70′s the weather forecasts were far more reliable than they are today. Second, I don’t need the weather sold to me. There’s no place for all the drama with weather reporting. It’s like they try their best to make things look the worst. Just report the weather thank you.
We certainly don’t need them pushing their political agendas. Climate control and weather are two entirely different fields of study. The weather channel has no business selling the global warming hype or condition, depending on your view. That’s not weather reporting.

Agreed!! It is probably happening because they are part of MSNBC. You can’t get weather information when they are running their shows etc. which seems to be all of the time lately!

Even KSAX is getting like that .
KSAX = Yesterdays news tomorrow or its its just a repeat of what was just reported on KSTP

I’ve been living without cable for the past 6 months and been doing just fine. I only rely on Selective TV satellite signals now! lol I thought I would go crazy without cable, but its not that bad as people think. There’s a lot to do than just watch tv anyway. I do miss Discovery channel, History, and SyFy though, but can always watch it online.
Hope Dennis knows you can still get signals without cable if you live in town, or close to someone with a satellite dish. Cable is still a whole lot better though. The “no signal” is what you’ll have to get use to once in awhile, especially during bad storms, or when a channel gets cancelled. lol

I say ditch cable and satellite all together! You end up paying ridiculous prices for very little quality content. I cut the cord over a year ago and have not looked back. How was I able to break my addiction and stop suckling at the teets of Charter and DirecTV, you ask? The all mighty internet, I answer you! Mainly I have a computer connected to my HDTV. On the computer I run an application called Boxee. Boxee essentially provides a DVR like interface to TV and movies. The cool factor comes in the form of, instead of recording the shows, Boxee connects you to sources on the internet that will stream the content to your computer for FREE at the moment. For the few instances where Boxee is unable to find a program that I want to view, I use bittorrent get the files imported into Boxee. The only programming that I desire that I can not obtain are NFL games. At this point even mlb games are streamed on the the net. Its not a perfect solution, but its darn good! And I get to keep my money!!!
