As others see it: Work force needs immigrants
August 17, 2010 at 7:00 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
The warning is not new: With the retirement of baby boomers, we will face a worker and skills shortage. But while the ready remedies retention, recruitment and training are part of the equation, they don’t speak to another threat we must face. Continue Reading

“America has birth controlled and aborted its self into a pickle …”
So your saying that one cause of immigration problems is due to abortions and birth control? Wow…thats the largest stretch of an opinion i have seen. With that logic, one could make a statement that abortions and birth control help limit the homosexual population. Less people born would mean less people that could be gay…right?

Actually it would mean that we would have more people. Having less people is in no way a reason why we have an immigration problem. We don’t have a shortage of workers….ever….unemployement at best was 4%….so we have always had more people than jobs. Stating birth control and abortions are a reason for illegal immigrants is silly and false.

“(dare we say non-white foreigners?)†NO, NO, NO, You May Not! I for one am really sick of being called a racist because I want our laws enforced and I am against ILLEGAL IMMAGRATION! I would consider the person who wrote that to be the true racist, and very foolish! Should be fired!

“Racist”? Where’d that come from?
Didn’t see anything in the article about that, it’s about getting educated immigrants here to improve out workforce. Or, keeping the ones who come here for an education, rather than let them go and add to our competition.

In terms of English-only initiative. Explain to me where in the Constitution or Bill or Rights I as a citizen of the US have to learn, speak or read english. As a citizen aren’t my rights and government services protected regardless of language? Please tell me the national law on an offical US language that states i must know English to gain the full rights and services of the US and its government.

Are there any tests that I have to complete in order to become naturalized?
Yes, applicants must pass a test to demonstrate ability to read, write and speak elementary English. Applicants are tested on their ability to speak and understand the English language. Just google it. I’m sure there are loopholes, but it is, or should be, common sense that we all need to be on the same page and in this country that page is English!

I understand to be natualized you must pass the test in English. But i asked if there is a national law that states English is the offical language. Its common sense to know English is the spoken language, but then why go out of your way to pass laws to state it? Seems redundant at best….alienating to immigrants currently here at worst.

Somehow, I suspect that everything sounds racist to you.
Tell me, just how many ‘foreigners’ do you consider ‘white’? I’d be willing to bet that it’s only the ones from eastern Europe. And even they are not all ‘white’.
Of course, the Native Americans aren’t all that ‘white’. Where do you stand on them?

This article is a thinly disguised push by big business for open borders and cheaper labor, which is inherently illegal! It has been used for years, and you Apparently fell for it!

No sheet b.a.c…..Amnesty and open border advocates (Big Business) have been using these same arguments forever! I’ve seen the same basic article many times before.

If you have Legal immigrants that are educated, I have no problem as long as they are not here working cheaper and displacing citizen workers. Such as Microsoft and many other companies are doing already! For your info, I’m in favor of deporting the illegal white Methodist too! Race baiter?

It seems like it would make more sense to be educating Americans of all races from disadvantaged areas such as inner cities so they are able to have a better future than to be importing people from other countries to educate them.

I look at legal immigrants, naturalized citizens and natural born citizens in the same way. They all have a right to do as they please within the law. I don’t know how you would determine if they were working too cheap as long as they are above minimum wage. Though I’m strongly against illegal immigration I understand why people want to come here.

I understand why they want to come here also. The problem is 3\4 of the world wants to come here. That’s why we have laws to regulate it. In the last 25 years the vast majority of aliens have come here illegally at some point or overstayed their green card, also illegal. There is really only one entity here that wants open boarders and amnesty. That would be the big corporations that hire big labor forces. The only reason for that is cheaper labor. You gota know that, right? The problem comes when the American citizen has to pick up the tab for the maintenance of this work force. The cost of education, welfare, crime and drugs, healthcare for their extended family, add to that the oppression of wages, the list is long! This would be one way to tell they are working too cheap. They also really pay no taxes. How is that? Their average family has four kids, so if you work at swift for $11 per, even if two work there, and you claim 6 dependents your withholding is very little. Then at the end of the year you qualify for the earned income credit and get back and extra $4-5 grand and they can’t use that against your welfare, nice payment on that new suv! These are only a few of the problems but you should be getting the idea! Now if these people could come here and get a job and live on their wages with no welfare at all and pay their full taxes this could be a different story! So cheap labor is really very expensive for American citizens! It should be obvious that we can’t continue down this road!

Ya got really good valid points. Not sure if you can qualify for welfare while working the 40+ hours at swift, but you are correct on the tax returns. One thing we may over look is what immigration adds to the economy. They do spend money….easily see that at Walmart on any weekend. You are correct also on the companies that pay low wages. Many will argue these are low skill jobs and are actually paid well for the work, but i do know that the packing industry used to be a noble occupation. Now its cheap, has high turn around, and is high injury prone. To fix this wage issue, we would also see a increase in the cost of many things we have grown accustomed to paying less for. Ground beef would no longer be $2-$3 a pound. Its a very tricky issue. We must figure out what we are willing to lose and gain.

If immigrants want to come to this country learn english, work for a living, be proud to become Americans and learn our ways that’s one thing it’s another thing to come here and work our system, disrespect as us, try to take over our country and at the same time our government tells us we have to bow to every need of a immigrant and learn their ways, that is a no-no, there is no darn way I will become unamerican to satisfy someone that is suppose to learn the American way. It is up to our government to protect us against treatment like this and they refuse to do so and shame on the gutless wonders.

It is also a shame that most immigrants vote Democrat because they don’t understand at all. That’s why they vote idiots in like this man who thinks that an island could tip over! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNZczIgVXjg&feature=player_embedded

If we took 75% of the people off welfare that don’t need it we would have plenty of workers, like the old days work or starve, can’t get any simpler than that.
