Blood glucose out of control is known to cause confusion and short term memory problems…..the confusion can be mild to extreme. I frequently hear references to ‘possibly diabetic’ from the police officers or dispatchers.
I don’t know what training everyone has had to recognize diabetic ‘issues’ but clearly from what I have heard our PD is well trained on this issue.
These same signs could also be Drug Use or Mental Illness. We should be thankful our PD makes sure diabetics are checked out at a hospital and get the necessary treatment. Not all diabetics carry their ‘gear’ with them as an indicator of medical issues so I am not sure how the police figure it out, I’m just happy they do.
