St. Louis County Board sticks with Cloquet Forest ATV plan

St. Louis County commissioners on Monday said they were generally satisfied with the current ATV plan for the Cloquet Valley State Forest, saying there will be no move to scrap the plan or make major changes.

Denise is exactly right. The commissioners are doing nothing here except reinforcing what they’ve already done. Which just about everyone in the county agrees is stupid.
Commissioners who say that this is the result of seven years of study are completely full of garbage.
This is the result of a handful of loudmouth and liberal treehuggers that wanted trails closed near their homes. There are tons of wetlands in the Cloquet Valley State Forest, and the closures are relatively conentrated to one area, even where ATV use is sparse and wetlands have been carefully considered by ATV users already.
Why does St. Louis County think it’s okay for the logging industry to go in and basically clear-cut these lands (right where the ATV trails are), put massive truck ruts through miles of forest (including wetlands) without anyone saying boo, but then have an issue with ATV’s that couldn’t do that kind of erosion in a hundred years of heavy use? It just doesn’t make sense.
When is everyone going to get that ATV users in general are the stewards of the land? They are the ones caring for it, using it, and ensuring it will thrive for future generations.
