FERGUS FALLS, Minn. An arrest warrant has been issued for Benjamin James Stavaas after he failed to appear in court Monday on animal cruelty charges.

My guess is that he didn’t want to face the picketers because he knew what he’d done was indefensible.

The judge needs to pin this guys ears back, with an industrial, pneumatic staple gun. Hopefully the “failure to appear†adds at least 30 days to the sentence.

So do you recommend torture or killing people a lot? I would guess the defendant got scared and intimidated by what has been said and done. He’s almost certainly received multiple death threats by now. It’s a normal mode of operation for the animal rights people now.

So, what’s your suggestion for a sentence Marvin???? $10 and 20 minutes community service? Or just probation, perhaps?

So Marvin, Do you advocate cruelty to animals?
Well-loved. Like or Dislike: 36 16
Of course not. How in the world did you read a post against violence as being for animal cruelty?

I would suggest that the judge, after hearing the evidence, is in the best position to determine a sentence.

Regarding Dog Throat Slitter Stavaas not showing up for his Animal Abuse court appearance; Marvin Nelson wrote: “So do you recommend torture or killing people a lot? Marvin Nelson, you are describing exactly what Stavaas did to his dog! The “torture and (attempted) killing”, of dog Star, when Stavaas slit his dog’s throat! How “scared and intimidated” dog Star must have been, by what Stavaas “has said and done” when he slit his dog’s throat; and dog Star “certainly received…a death threat”, when Stavaas slit his innocent dog’s throat, leaving him for dead! (Stavaas brought all of this onto himself, and more!)

Correct, and now the law is dealing with him.

No, the law is trying to deal with him.

So do YOU recommend torture or killing animals a lot? The defendant should be scared. I hope he gets treated the way he treated his dog. He’s a poor excuse for a human being!

The point, Marvin, is that Star has no voice and needs people to speak for her. Perhaps an eye for an eye is the way some people wish certain criminals be punished. He should receive a stiff sentence as studies have shown that cruelty to animals often leads to physical crimes against humans

I don’t think he should be punished for crimes he hasn’t committed. Should we lock up mothers because mothers are the most likely individuals to murder children? No.
The guy does sound like he is out of control, after all cutting your dog’s throat because you are mad, assuming the paper account is accurate, is a really bad way to deal with anger. Hopefully, this incident will prevent any future one.
I know other people are mad too. I also see publically calling for violence to be another unacceptable response to anger. The guy that hurt the dog just might not be the only person around that needs authorities to step in as a result of inapporpriate responses to anger.
609.713 TERRORISTIC THREATS.
Subdivision 1.Threaten violence; intent to terrorize.Whoever threatens, directly or indirectly, to commit any crime of violence with purpose to terrorize another or to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly, vehicle or facility of public transportation or otherwise to cause serious public inconvenience, or in a reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than five years or to payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both. As used in this subdivision, “crime of violence” has the meaning given “violent crime” in section 609.1095, subdivision 1, paragraph (d).
Subd. 2.Communicates to terrorize.Whoever communicates to another with purpose to terrorize another or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror, that explosives or an explosive device or any incendiary device is present at a named place or location, whether or not the same is in fact present, may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than three years or to payment of a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.
Shall we argue over whether the intent of some is to terrorize the man? I think it’s pretty clear, some people are justifying their actions by what was done to the dog. I don’t see one man’s actions as justifying breaking the law in another way.
You are the one who links violence to humans to violence to animals, do you think it doesn’t work the other way as well?
The point is violence begats violence, it doesn’t justify it.

*Well, actually NO. I don’t think it does “work the other way as well”. For the simple reason that I really don’t think that Animal Dog Star, is going to turn on his Human Master/Dog Throat Slasher-Stavaas in retaliation Pay Back Time, and “slice his throat”, (like Stavaas did to Star).
In fact, I have never heard of it “working the other way as well.”

I think Marvin intended the point that if you are advocating violence toward humans you are also likely to be violent to animals. Not animals being violent to humans.
This guy will answer for what he has done. But the threats against him advocate the exact same violence he is accused of. Can’t you see the hypocracy of making such threats? It puts you on the same level as him when you make such threats.

Glen is correct, that is what I was talking about.

Marvin – “Shall we argue over whether the intent of some is to terrorize the man?” Stavaas is on probation from a 2006 Wadena County conviction of TERRORISTIC threats and domestic assault. He’s the freakin’ terrorist. The good folks showing up for his hearing were asking for the maximum penalty for Stavaas if he’s convicted. I could not agree more with them. He is one sadistic sad excuse for a human being. From what I’ve read in this forum, nobody here is “threatening” him. They are dam mad though, and want this punk to pay severely for his cowardly actions against man’s best friend. Personally, I feel that he should experience the same terror and pain that he brought upon his dog, and that is in no way a threat.

He slits a dogs throat, you think he’s gonna be responsible enough to show up to his court date? lol. This guy is the epitome of useless waste.

Sahah Palin, I agree 100%. Glen, If you are an animal rights activist I highly doubt you will be violent towards animals.

Jones, excellent point. I vehemently oppose the decapitation and murder of human babies as well as vicious treatment of pets. The baby humans also have “no voice” or ability to protect themselves. Both crimes should be punished harshly. Why couldn’t this dork just bring his dog to the Humane Society? Adoption is always a better choice than murder.

I totally agree with you on both issues.

Those who are concerned about the dog should be equally concerned about unborn children. Stop abortion and the culture of death.

Animal cruelty and abortion are not linked issues. You are wrong.

Both unborn babies and pet animals have no “voice” to defend themselves with. They are both helpless victims of monsterous acts by human beings. The two do have things in common. What I find perplexing is that people run to “lynch” an animal abuser yet don’t bat an eye when helpless, viable babies are slaughtered and dragged out of their mothers’ wombs. Interesting society we live in.

I sincerely hope this man winds up trapped in a dark alley with some dogs from the animal shelter here in town.
They’d lick him to death.

The creep needs to have his day in court, be allowed to make his defense, and then after he’s found guilty thrown in a dark cell with some lonely degenerate convicts for room mates who have puppies they left behind when they were locked behind bars.
