Pomeroy, ethanol industry fighting to keep incentives

WASHINGTON The once-popular ethanol industry is scrambling to hold on to billions of dollars in government subsidies, fighting an increasing public skepticism of the corn-based fuel and wariness from lawmakers who may divert the money to other priorities. Continue Reading

What a waste of Government money and a program that does not make money is a drag on the economy. What more is there to say on this subject. There are so many other options that will make money and overall save energy, such as Wind energy, Solar panels and electric cars. We really need to get some Nuclear plants up and running now.

Mcalley, wind power is subsidized heavier then ethanol, and from what I’ve seen, wind power is unreliable. Go visit any turbine site and look. They are constantly changing out malfunctioning generators. I’ve seen generators that lasted only a few months getting replaced. Ethanol saves us from importing more oil.

german shepherd: I find your claim that the Generators only last 2 months may only be one or two. So it looks like they need funding for better Generators, the money would go farther. ND is almost always windy and it will help supplement clean energies. I agree with you on importing oil, but we have our own oil and plenty of it, so if that is your claim then we can just pump our own oil, not make corn into fuel, this is a temp fix that cost Government money and there is no long lasting benefit. Haven’t you ever heard of doing the job right the first time or when you buy tools do you go to outlets or do you go to Sears, if you know anything about quality tools you go to sears. Green energy that does not pollute and provides us with power is what the Government needs to supplement untill they can get on their feet, it cost money to devolpe quality Generators, how come California is doing so well, what are we doing that they are not?

I’m not saying that all generators only last a couple months, but enough of them fail that it seems they are always changing one of them out. Plus, the generators I’ve seen are made in Spain, so it isn’t even helping the US economy.

Subsidies of any kind distort markets. If, after 30 years, an industry still cannot compete in an unsubsidized market, sorry, you have been given your chance. You are not too big to fail.

We’re over 13 trillion in debt and our budget deficit is over a trillion for the first time in history. It’s time to start cutting programs that have had their chance and have been a drag on our economy.
