Overall, good news from the council chambers this week. Yes there was a mistake in the fireworks show, but it was still a good show and the money was well spent.
The jar store does need to move to a better location with better parking, and the VFW is a good place, even if it does mean crossing the highway to get in. We will just have to see how the traffic flow works out.
Concerts in the park on Fridays during the summer season, a very good idea, I think. We might even entertain a few tourists and convince them that this is a nice place to visit (and spend money).
I’ve done a lot of traveling around this country in the past 2 years, since my retirement. One thing I look for in any new town is an information center. You get an idea what the area is about and where things are, and how to get to these places. It is vital though that information about *all* of the attractions and businesses is made available, and not limit it to just the Chamber of Commerce members, as has been the practice in the past. There will be state and federal money in this center – this is public money and so all facets of the public must be presented to our visitors.
Fixing first avenue is good. Way overdue. What news of 8th street?
