I remember my dad talking about this day. He was a state trooper at the time, on duty. As I recall his story, he was at (I think) a rest area which was elevated and provided a view of the area when he saw the funnel cloud. I don’t recall if he radioed ahead or just took off in his squad car, but the troopers raced to get ahead of the storm to warn residents. By the time they got to Miltona, the town had already been hit.
This was a time before satellite imagry , Doppler radar, etc…
