WILLMAR Gary Lee Mattson, 56, of Willmar, was sentenced this morning to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine and a year of probation on a misdemeanor charge of failure to stop for a blind person for a Nov. 16 incident in which he ran over a blind man at First Street South and 19th Avenue in Willmar. I cannot believe that Gary Mattson was only given 90 days!! Not only that but that he doesn’t have to serve it all at one time! This man hit a blind man and then left him for dead, not only that but Mr. Sykora will have a lifetime of pain and suffering. Mr. Sykora has lost his sense of freedom because of Gary Mattson, he can’t even go for walks anymore. I hope Mr. Sykora sues him for all he’s worth and wins…..maybe some other judge can finally give Mr. Sykora the justice he deserves

The sentence certainly does seem super light, doesn’t it? (Is that because of Mattson’s social standing in Willmar’s business community??) And – an eye exam?? Was that part of Mattson’s defense – that he can’t see well?? If that is true, then why on earth is he DRIVING in the first place? And why on earth is he still practicing dentistry??? I’m also curious as to why the responding officer allowed Mattson to leave the accident scene – it would have been obvious that there was a serious injury involved… and to let the driver just leave…? I don’t get it. Seems that there is a lot going on here, behind the scenes.
