Grand Forks City Council member Terry Bjerke has asked the city attorney and the Police Department to offer some recommendations for regulating vehicle towing companies.

I think this is absolutely necessary. As a freshman in college during a hockey game (which I wasn’t even attending), my car was towed from an unmarked lot. They slapped up a handwritten, notebook paper sign after my car had been towed. My car was towed to East Grand at about 11 p.m. When I finally arrived at the business, I had to wait for him to show up. He then charged me $130 cash only, and would not give me a receipt. My car was in his possession for maybe 45 minutes. I called the police the following day, knowing this was unfair and feeling cheated, but they said there was nothing they could do.
