Ellie’s keeps liquor license, but with stipulations
June 17, 2010 at 5:56 am in Hudson Star-Observer
After more than three hours of testimony and another hour of deliberation behind closed doors, the Hudson City Council decided shortly after midnight on Tuesday not to suspend the liquor license of Ellie’s on Main, a downtown bar.Continue Reading

If you live in a city then you should be use to sounds outside. Shut the window if you don’t want to hear it. When I live in the city I use to hear sirens all night. Am I supposed to ask the city to not have the sirens and light going because I am sleeping? I am glad the city did not enter into the whims of a few people. Even though I still think that Ellies is a puke hole, it is still a business.

I would hate for someone to lose their job or business in this economy, however, I have walked past their building on several Sunday mornings on my way to coffee and have witnessed several plastic cups all around their building and sidewalk. Twice, I had to avoid vomit on the sidewalk and once the sidewalk was covered in blood in front of their taped up window. Why wouldn’t they take the responsibility to clean up after such an event? If someone puked or bled all over their bar, they would clean it up, why not if it is on the street in front of their door? My guess is they have a “not my problem” attitude. After walking past on many Sunday mornings, I actually chuckled out loud when I read that they “always clean up the sidewalk in front of their building” – I thought the owner was sworn in?

I betcha all 10 bucks that Rad Wagon is one of the complainants that led to this complete waste of city funds. Biased and bitter. Would probably also complain about their house being hit by golf balls after moving in to a house on a golf course. Next target…the fire department and those darned sirens.

Witch hunt. Not sure what makes this place any different than many of the other bars. I agree it needs to be cleaned up nightly and sure would be nice if they spent some $$ on the front (same ugly design for the last 20 years…). In a nutshell its just like Dicks but with cheap beer…

CRN – Where do I go to collect my $10.00?
CleatU – I think Dicks deserves a little credit – They used to have significant problems, no argument there, but they have made some big effort in decreasing the amount of trouble they saw in the past, and in my opinion, been successful- I also know that they make a real effort to clean up in front of their establishment, granted they have an early breakfast, so they have some vested interest in keeping it clean, but I believe it is also out of respect for downtown business and residents.

I also am glad they did not revoke their liquor license. If they did, then they’d have to go after the other downtown establishments there were cited as worse. You live downtown, you’re going to have to put up with different sounds than if you’re out of town. Common sense.

Common sense says to ME if you run a drinkin’ establishment, you are responsible for a couple of things. Maintaining order of your “clientele” would be number one. Quit serving if your clients are obviously drunk. You’re also responsible for cleaning up all the upchuck, trash and urine in front of your place, before the breakfast crowd comes in to have a ham & cheese omelet at your neighbors business. That’s how businesses work together and thrive. It shows respect. It’s being responsible. As far as the folks that say when you live “downtown” you should know that you will have to put up with this type of behavior, I have to (excuse me) LMAO. This is Hudson. This type of behavior should not have to be tolerated anywhere.

Alice, Hudson is not a larger city then 20 years ago when was kinda of sleepy. As stated when you live downtown the is alway going to be noise until and a little after bar closing. How is that funny to you? Is is a city. Lots of diffrent sounds come from the city.

As I stated, I don’t believe this type of behavior should have to be tolerated anywhere – city or country. If you are running any type of business that is constantly disrupting your neighbors, maybe it’s time to make some changes. The law does not change because this dump is located in the booming metropolis of Hudson. Vomit, urine, simulated sex, trash, fighting and broken windows – it certainly sounds like a disorderly house to me. If you cannot follow societies rules, you should not be running a business.

Too funny, let’s try to set a record for “thumbs down”. I also believe the young punks that frequent the bar have quite a bit of growing up to do. When you cannot control your mind or bodily functions it’s just not funny anymore, it’s sad…
