Bulldozer premature in clearing land near Piedmont school site
June 9, 2010 at 5:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune

Scott Kuiti was on the road Wednesday morning in Eveleth when he learned by phone that a bulldozer was rumbling across his property and taking out trees. He was none too pleased.

Typical of the school board, there is no doubt in my mind that if they saw the need, in their head, to take a first born child or consummate a newly married couple’s relationship, by God they are the Duluth School board and they are entitled to do it! Two thumbs up to the DNT for the very dramatic photo.

I agree Kevin, but there is definitely a certain arrogance attached to the district, board, and Dixon. To them this is just an “oops”, it’s actually kind of a big deal. I’ve been a project manager in the construction industry for 9 years, to imply the board specifically asked them to clear it, doesn’t make sense, but ANY competent Contractor knows where their site starts and ends. What if it had been your front yard they tore apart? I agree with the DNT, Dixon should’ve been on the phone in a heartbeat apologizing to the land owner.

I walked by this yesteday an there are ‘no tresspassing’ signs posted which are pretty comical as the area is relatively small. When I saw the headlines to this story I knew exactly who it was going to be about because Kuiti has a reputation for opposing just about everything that goes on around there. Yes, the school board should probably confirmed that this should not have been bulldozed, and technically shouldn’t have been done. But ‘the price just went up’? If Kuiti tries to capitalize on this opportunity he’s just taking money out of the education budget and away from the children. How neighborly. But I guess if you have no kids in the school systems, why should you care?

I won’t/can’t comment on the desires mr Kuiti…..but Jane, for you to belittle this situation with a comment like “technically this shouldn’t have been done.”…..wow. So if I have no signed pruchase agreement for your house, but I strongly think I’ll buy it at some point…. and so I decide to start moving my furniture into your garage while you’re gone grocery shopping….are you good with that ?
Technically is reserved for missing a period or comma or misspelling a common word in a signed pruchase agreement. The lack of any signed purchase agreement is far more than a “technicality” in my opinion.

I don’t think it matters who’s property it was, again, what if it was your property? And take money out of the education budget, what budget? There’s no limit to the amount of money the district will spend at taxpayer’s expense, we’re watching it all happen without so much as a public vote. It should really irritate locals to see how many out of town trucks are at each project and how many local tradespeople are sitting on the bench. This entire proecess stinks and has stunk from day one, the district arbitrarily claiming personal property is just the next step.
